2001 Balchen/Post Awards Presented Outstanding Achievement in Airport Snow and Ice Control

At the 35th Annual International Aviation Snow Symposium on April 25th, 2001, in Buffalo, New York, awards were presented to the “Snow Crews” of the airports in the Snow Belt for their dedicated efforts in maintaining their airports in safe and operational status during the 2000-2001 winter season.This is the twenty-fifth consecutive year that such awards have been presented. All categories of airports - commercial, general aviation and military - throughout the United States and Canada compete for these awards.

Nominations for consideration for an award come from users of airports, airlines, airline pilots, general aviation, corporate pilots, regional airlines, the military and even non-airport staff such as hotel owners, parking lot and ground transportation operators, chambers of commerce as well as the airports themselves.Applications are submitted on behalf of the local workforce in recognition of their efforts of keeping the airport operational at all times.

Small General Aviation (Less than 50,000 total operations per year)
Winner:
Southwest Michigan Regional Airport, Benton Harbor, MI
Honorable Mention:
Rutland State Airport, North Clarendon, VT

Large General Aviation (More than 50,000 total operations per year)
Winner:
Oakland County International, Waterford, MI
Honorable Mention:
Centennial Airport, Englewood, CO
St. Hubert Airport, Quebec Canada

Small Commercial (Less than 10,000 total operations per year)
Winner:
Erie International Airport, Erie PA
Honorable Mention:
Gorton-New London Airport, Gorton, CT
Reading Regional International Airport, Reading, PA

Medium Commercial (10,000 to 75,000 total operations per year)
Winner:
Syracuse/Hancock International Airport (Syracuse, New York)
Honorable Mention:
Buffalo International Airport, Buffalo, NY

Large Commercial (More than 75,000 total operations per year)
Winner:
Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport
Honorable Mention:
Dorval Montreal International Airport, Montreal, Canada
Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport Detroit, MI
Newark International Airport, Newark, NJ

Military

Winner:
Eielson Air Force Base, Fairbanks, Alaska
